BATON ROUGE – LSU’s student-athletes reported back to campus to participate in “The Return” hosted by the Cox Communications Academic Center.
CCACSA teamed up with the LSU National L Club to welcome back student-athletes with fun and games in the Cox Auditorium followed by dinner.
“This is something even when I was a student-athlete that we would participate in,” former LSU softball player and current L Club Liasison Kristen Cain said. “It welcomes everyone back and gets everyone in one room at the same time. It’s really cool to have everyone meet everybody and a great way to kick off the year. We know it will be a great season with all the sports and what we have to offer.”
Head coaches Les Miles, Fran Flory, Karen Bahnsen, D-D Breaux and Dave Geyer were present and represented the LSU Athletic Department, as the coaches partook in some friendly competition against the athletes in a game of ‘Tiger Feud.’
“I had a great time,” football long snapper Reid Ferguson said. “It was fun to see Coach Miles in an atmosphere outside of football and being able to enjoy himself around the rest of the student athletes and coaches here at LSU.”
“It was fun,” softball shortstop Bianka Bell added. “I got to meet up with all the other athletes after the summer break. Coming back, playing games and being about to joke around with your teammates is always a good time.”
In addition to the fun and games, the L Club issued out letter jackets to student athletes who earned their first letter during the 2014-15 season.
“We wanted to make it a special moment where they received their jacket among their peers because it’s something that is earned,” Cain said.
Several athletes lined up to be fitted for their jackets where they became an official member of the L Club.
“It is exciting and definitely a milestone to get a letter jacket at LSU,” football wide receiver John Diarse said. “It’s one of those things you look forward to. It shows others how you contributed to your team and how the University cares about you and rewards you for your contribution.”
