Forty Named to SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Forty LSU student-athletes from the men’s basketball, women’s basketball, gymnastics, and swimming and diving teams earned spots on the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll as announced by the league office Thursday.

The Swimming and Diving team led the way for LSU with 25 student-athletes. All Americans Frank Greeff, Cassie Weil, Kara Kopcso and Amber Carter led the way for the swimmers and divers

Greeff wrapped up his career as a leader out of the pool. Greeff was the men’s team captain for two years, school record holder in the 200 fly, a part of two school record relay teams, owns two other times on the top-10 list and is a two-time NCAA Honorable Mention All-American. The South Africa native was also LSU’s male nominee for the SEC Boyd McWhorter Postgraduate scholarship.

Weil, Carter and Kopcso combined to form the largest women’s group assembled in school history to be sent to NCAA Championships. Carter tied the school record in the 100 fly (52.11) during prelims on the way to her first All-American honor. Weil collected her third NCAA Honorable Mention All-American honor on three-meter. Kopcso also earned the first Honorable Mention All-American honor of her career in the 200 fly.

Rheagan Courville, Sydney Ewing, Michelle Gauthier, Ashleigh Gnat, Lloimincia Hall, Jessie Jordan, Shonacee Oliva, Jessica Savona, Scarlett Williams and Randii Wyrick earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll from the gymnastics team.

A school-record seven Tigers earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships earlier this month. Courville tallied fourAll-America honors with first-team distinction on bars and the all-around. Jordan earned three total honors with first-team recognition on beam and the all-around. Gnat (FX) and Wyrick (UB) also added first-team All-America awards. Ewing earned second-team All-America honors on beam and floor.

Rina Hill, Raigyne Moncrief and Anne Pedersen of women’s basketball were also recognized by the conference. Moncrief averaged 11.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. She was second among SEC guards in rebounding and earned the Student-Athlete award and the Offensive Player of the Year honors at the team banquet this week. Hill was recognized as the team’s Defensive Player of the Year, while Pedersen took home Most Improved Player accolades.

Brandon Eddlestone and Henry Shortess, a pair of walk-ons on the men’s basketball team, rounded out LSU student-athletes on the honor roll.
