COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Junior Logan Rysemus led the LSU swimming and diving team with victories in the 100 fly and 100 back on the second day of the Art Adamson Invitational at Texas A&M’s Student Recreation Center.
“Logan cashed in on two great swims this evening, and he is in a great spot time wise midway through the season,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Tomorrow is a big day and we have had to some long sessions at the poll. We really need to step up in the morning.”
The LSU men finished first and second in the 100 fly. In addition to Rysemus’ victory, senior Alex Linge finished second with a time of 47.13. Devin McCaffrey touched the wall third in the consolation final (48.93) and Harrison Jones finished seventh in the bonus final (50.37).
Sophie Weber opened the individual events for the women by finishing eighth in the championship final of the 400 IM (4:19.80). Freshman Lauren Thompson finished fourth in the consolation final (4:22.92) and Jessie James finished fifth in the bonus final (4:27.33).
In the 100 fly, Kara Kopcso touched the wall fourth in the championship final with a time of 52.47. Leah Troskot and Kate Zimmer swam in the consolation final and finished third and fifth respectively. Gabrielle Pick rounded out the group of Lady Tigers in the event by finishing eighth in the bonus final.
Megan Cox finished seventh in the 200 free championship final with a time of 1:46.99. Stacey Stanfield finished fourth in the bonus final with a career-best time of 1:49.84.
Colleen O’Neil touched the wall seventh in the championship final of the 100 breast (1:01.58). Taryn MacKenzie added a fourth-place finish in the consolation final (1:03.11) and Summer Spradley finished fourth in the bonus final (1:03.48).
In the final women’s individual event of the night, the 100 back, Danielle Stirrat took first in the consolation final with a time of 54.03. Caley Oquist finished third (54.86), Kate Zimmer finished sixth (55.57) and Makenna Wilson finished seventh (55.77). Freshman Haylee Knight also added a third-place finish overall in the bonus final with a time of 55.53.
Brandon Goldman led the Tigers by finishing second in the championship final of the 400 IM. His time of 3:50.56 was enough for third in school history. Freshman Alarii Levreault-Lopez also finished third in the bonus final with a time of 3:58.84.
Jake Markham provided a strong swim in the championship final of the 200 free and finished in fifth place with a time of 1:38.59. Braydon Bergeron also finished second in the bonus final with a time of 1:39.63.
In the 100 breast championship final, Silas Dejean finished fifth (54.69). Garrett House and Harry Ackland added third-place finishes in the consolation final and bonus final respectively.
With Rysemus leading the men in the 100 back championship final, Thomas Smith finished eighth with a time of 50.51. Will Arthur finished seventh in the consolation final and Tyler Harper finished fifth in the bonus final.
In the relay events, the women’s team of Oquist, O’Neil, Kopcso and Troskott finished third overall with a time of 1:38.98 in the 200-medley relay. The team of Kopcso, Stirrat, Cox and Dabney finished fourth in the 800 free relay (7:12.72).
The 200-medley relay men’s team that finished second with a time of 1:27.07 consisted of Rysemus, Dejean, Linge and Joao Mescolote. The team of Linge, Markham, Bergeron and Arthur closed out the night with a fourth-place finish in the 800 free relay (6:34.49).
In the women’s one-meter final, Allie Alter finished fifth with a score of 259.40 and Cassie Weil followed in sixth place with a score of 254.95. In the men’s three-meter final, Andrew Suchla finished in fifth place with a score of 352.50.
