Swimming Relay Team 14th at NCAA’s

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The LSU men’s swimming and diving team picked up four more All-America honors in relay competition Saturday at the 2010 NCAA Championships with a 14th-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.

The foursome of James Meyers, Andrei Tuomola, Hannes Heyl and Sean LeNeave recorded a mark of 1 minute, 27.32 seconds after qualifying for the consolation final with a time of 1:26.35.

“I am proud of how we fought in the relay tonight,” LSU head coach Adam Schmitt said. “It was a tight race, and it was great to come away with four more All-Americans for our team. They are representing LSU very proudly, and tomorrow we are looking to add some more.”

Heyl barely missed qualifying for the consolation final in the 100 butterfly by just six one-hundredths of a second, swimming to a 17th-place finish with a 46.85 clocking. The German also swam the 100 backstroke, placing 38th (48.75).

Meyers was the Tigers’ top performer in the 100 back, registering 22nd with a time of 47.57. Tuomola also competed individually, taking 34th in the 100 breaststroke (55.04).

After Day 2, the Tigers sit in 27th in the team standings.

LSU will wrap up the competition Sunday with competitors in the 400 freestyle relay and the 100 and 1650 free.
