Veteran southpaw who should be one of the Tigers’ top pitchers in 2001…enjoyed an exceptional fall 2000 practice session, posting a 0.66 ERA in LSU’s intra-squad games; in 13.2 innings, he allowed just one earned run on five hits with six walks, 13 strikeouts and a .111 opponents’ batting average…a member of the 2000 SEC Academic Honor Roll with a 3.44 gpa in general business…also a recipient of the 1998-99 LSU Athletic Director’s Cup for academic excellence…was LSU’s first signee for the 1998 season, signing in the fall of 1996.
2000 Season
Made 14 relief appearances, posting no decisions and an 8.25 ERA…worked 12 innings, recording three walks and nine Ks…did not pitch in LSU’s post-season games.
1999 Season
Second on the team in appearances with 29 (all in relief), as he posted a 2-2 mark and a 5.51 ERA in 32.2 innings…allowed 39 hits and 25 runs (20 earned) with 16 walks and 37 Ks…1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in SEC games, allowing 15 hits and seven runs (six earned) in 12 innings with four walks and 14 strikeouts…worked 0.2 innings in the SEC Tournament with two strikeouts…worked a total of 2.1 innings (three appearances) in LSU’s seven NCAA Tournament games, allowing three hits and one earned run with two walks and two Ks…worked 1.2 scoreless and hitless innings vs. Florida (March 14) with no walks and four strikeouts…also recorded four Ks in 1.2-inning outing vs. Ole Miss (March 26)…longest outing came in 2.1-inning stint at New Orleans (April 20), as he limted the Privateers to one run on two hits…also picked up a win over Auburn (May 1) with one inning of scoreless and hitless relief…earned a save vs. New Orleans (April 6), working 2.1 scoreless innings with two Ks.
1998 Season
Appeared in 11 games (five starts), recording a 3-0 mark and a 2.87 ERA in 31.1 innings with 23 walks and 36 strikeouts…opponents batted just .162 against him . . .earned his first career win vs. Louisiana College (Feb. 25), striking out six and allowing just three hits in five innings…struck out seven in four hitless innings to earn a victory over Southern University (March 4)…defeated Louisiana Tech (March 10), limiting the Bulldogs to two hits in five innings…earned his first career save vs. New Orleans (March 17), as he struck out six and allowed two hits in four scoreless innings…pitched two relief innings vs. SW Louisiana in the NCAA South II Regional (May 22), allowing one hit and an unearned run with one strikeout.
High School
Lettered two years as a pitcher at Rummel High…was the Class 5A MVP as a senior in 1997, when he led the Raiders to the district and state championships…earned Gatorade High School Player of the Year honors in 1997…. played in the ’97 LHSCA All-Star game…was the Nokia Sugar Bowl Amateur Athlete of the Month for March, 1997…went 12-1 with a 1.51 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 88 innings as a senior…also was the all-district and all-Metro MVP…earned all-Metro and all-district honors in 1996…finished his career at Rummel with a 23-4 record, a 1.73 ERA and 235 strikeouts in 170 innings…coached by Frank Cazeaux.

Full name is Timothy Lawrence Nugent…son of Jerry and Adalynn Nugent…has one brother, Jerry…chose LSU because it had the “best baseball program in the country and its academics”…born March 6, 1979.
