Played as a reserve infielder for LSU in 2015 as a true freshman … elected to transfer to another school after the 2015 season … comes from strong baseball bloodlines as his father, Paul Byrd, is a former LSU Tiger great and 14-year MLB pitcher … a smooth defender who can make all the plays and throws in the infield … offensively, he possesses an excellent approach at the plate with outstanding strike zone discipline and ability to drive balls gap-to-gap from the left side.

2015 Season
Played in 24 games (five starts), batting .212 (7-for-33) with one double, nine RBI and nine runs scored … started two games at second base, two games at third base and one game at DH … 2-for-5 in win at New Orleans on May 12 with two runs scored and a career-best four RBI.

Prior to LSU
Named the 2014 Georgia High School Association Region 6A Player of the Year, batting .480 on the year … led King’s Ridge Christian High School to a 26-4 record, capturing the Class A State Championship … earned 2014 Perfect Game Southeast Region First-Team honors … as a junior hit .570 and was named team MVP … named the North Fulton County Student Athlete of the Month for May 2014, as he was recognized for mission trips and charity work as well as his academic and athletic success … selected to Team USA Developmental Program for 17U players coached by former LSU great Ben McDonald.

Full name is Grayson Elijah Byrd … parents are Paul and Kym Byrd … Paul Byrd pitched at LSU from 1989-91 and enjoyed a 14-year Major League career with the Mets, Braves, Phillies, Royals, Angels, Indians and Red Sox … has one younger sibling, Colby … chose to attend LSU because of “the facilities and top-notch coaching; both of my parents attended LSU and I’ve been wearing purple and gold my whole life; the food in Louisiana is also amazing!” … majoring in sports administration at LSU … born June 16, 1996, in Queens, New York.
