SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The LSU women’s golf team concludes its fall portion of the golf season starting Sunday at the Alamo Invitational at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course.
LSU enters the tournament ranked 25th in the Golfstat performance rankings and 29th in the Golfweek/Sagarin performance chart after three events, highlighted by a third place finish in the Schooner Fall Classic in Oklahoma.
Joining LSU and host Texas-San Antonio in the three-day event are Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Oklahoma, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M Texas State and Tulane.
The tournament was a low scoring event with Oklahoma winning with a 16-under total of 848 and Tulane’s Maribel Lopez Porras took the individual title at 7-under par 209. The course plays to a par 72 and 6,428 yards.
Leading LSU through the fall are freshman Caroline Nistrup and junior Madelen Sagstrom. Nistrup has been third and fourth in the last two tournaments and leads the team in stroke average of 71.00 for nine rounds with two 5-under rounds (65 on the par 70 Schooner course and 67 at the Tar Heel Invitational).
Sagstrom, who in her first two years was one of the most consistent golfers in LSU history in stroke average, is again off to a good start with a 72.11 average and her first collegiate win at the Schooner.
Nistrup is presently ninth in the nation in the Golfstat Cup rankings and 14th in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, while Sagstrom is ranked 33rd in the nation in both rankings.
Joining the pair in the Tiger lineup will be seniors Lindsay Gahm (76.00) and Ali Lucas (74.56) and sophomore Nadine Dreher (80.00).
The tournament begins Sunday at 11 a.m. LSU will play with Florida and Oklahoma and will begin its event in the second wave at 11:40 a.m. live scoring for the event will be at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com/results.
