National Strength & Conditioning All-American (1998, 1999, 2000)

Two-sport star who returns to the women’s basketball squad after completing her eligibility in softball last spring … Enjoyed a brilliant LSU career as an outfielder, helping to lead LSU to two Southeastern Conference championships and three NCAA Regional appearances … Completed her softball career with a .284 batting average in 247 games with three homers, 24 doubles, five triples and 81 RBI … Earned first-team all-SEC softball recognition in 1998 … A three-time National Strength and Conditioning all-American (1998, 1999, 2000) … Played basketball for the Lady Tigers in 1997-98 and 1998-99, but sat out the 1999-2000 season to concentrate on her final season of softball … Her return to the basketball squad gives the Lady Tigers much-needed depth down low … An extremely physical player who can defend, rebound and set dominating screens … earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in August, 2000; she is presently pursuing a graduate degree in sports administration.

Junior Season (1998-99): Played in 18 games (no starts), scoring 19 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in 119 minutes of play (an average of 6.6 minutes per game) … also recorded two assists and six steals on the year … helped the Lady Tigers to a 22-8 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Sweet 16.

Sophomore Season (1997-98): Played in 20 games (no starts), scoring 28 points on the year while pulling down 39 rebounds … Shot 9-of-21 (42.9) from the field and averaged 8.3 minutes per contest … Helped the Lady Tigers to a 19-13 overall record and a berth in the Women’s NIT semi-finals.

High School: Earned six letters while helping lead her team to the 1993 state softball championship … Named to the Coaches Association of Women’s Sports all-state team … Also named to the State newspaper all-area squad.

Personal: Full name is Stacey Noel Newton … Born August 4, 1978 … Parents are Art and Karen Newton … Has one older brother, Ken … earned bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in August, 2000 … presently pursuing a graduate degree in sports administration.
