1998 SEC Football Academic Honor Roll

The Tigers’ pooch punter each of the last 2 years, Jeremy Witten is also one of the top hitters for LSU’s nationally-ranked baseball team … Member of the 1998 SEC Academic Honor Roll … Is adept at dropping punts inside the opponents’ 10 yard line … Gained national recognition in the spring of 1997 when he played in an SEC baseball game against Auburn, then participated in LSU’s spring football game that night in his baseball uniform; the photograph of Witten made several national publications … Redshirted the fall of 1995 in football and the spring of 1996 in baseball.

JUNIOR SEASON (1998)
Served as the Tigers’ pooch punter for the second straight year … Punted 16 times for 527 yards, an average of 32.9 yards per punt … Landed 11 of his 16 punts (68.8 percent) inside the opponents’ 20 yard line, with 2 touchbacks and 4 fair catches … Punted 3 times against Ole Miss, with all 3 being downed inside the 20 … Landed a punt at the 5-yard line against Georgia, at the 2 vs. Idaho and at the 1 vs. Arkansas State … Made 1 tackle on a Mississippi State onsides kick near end of that game.

SOPHOMORE SEASON (1997)
Tigers’ pooch punter … Punted 15 times for 525 yards, an average of 35.0 yards per punt exclusively in pooch situations … Landed 7 punts inside the opponents’ 20 yard line … Best game came at Alabama as he landed punts at the 13, 1 and 2 yard lines … Punt to 2-yard line at Alabama set up TD as LSU recovered fumbled snap on next play … Had a career-long 53-yard punt against Ole Miss … Punted twice for 29.0 average in pooch duty vs. Notre Dame in Independence Bowl.

REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON (1996)
Played in 1 game, seeing his first career action against home state school Kentucky, and punted once for 36 yards.

BASEBALL (1999)
The team’s No. 2 hitter, he played in 66 games, started 59 and batted .330 with 69 hits in 209 at bats with 18 doubles, 3 triples and 8 home runs … A starter in the outfield for team that reached Super Regional round and finished No. 14 in the country.

BASEBALL (1998)
Played in 53 games and batted .309 with 38 hits in 123 at bats with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs with 15 RBI … Started 28 games … Part-time starter in right field for team that reached College World Series and finished No. 3 in the country.

Played in 53 games and batted .277 with 13 hits in 47 at bats with 3 doubles, 1 triple and 3 home runs with 11 RBI … Started 4 games … Played right field and was used often as a pinch runner … Team won second straight national championship.

Averaged 45.1 yards per punt as a senior with a long punt of 65 yards and no blocks … averaged over 43 yards for his career with his longest being 71 yards … named Class 4A All-State (the top classification in Kentucky) … in baseball, batted .425 as an outfielder with 3 home runs, 26 stolen bases and a slugging percentage of .750 as a senior … also had won-loss record of 6-0 with a 1.17 ERA and 62 strikeouts … named all-district and all-region in baseball.
