Arguably, the greatest player in LSU baseball history … put together three incredible seasons and broke several SEC and LSU records with unprecedented numbers … a two-time first-team All-American … chosen as the eighth overall selection by the Minnesota Twins in the 1994 Major League Draft … joined the Chicago Cubs in December 2003 after spending nine years in the big leagues with four other teams … joined Russ Johnson on the 1993 USA Team at the World University Games in Buffalo, N.Y. … a 51st-round choice of the Texas Rangers in the 1991 free agent draft.

JUNIOR SEASON (1994)
Completed his brilliant LSU career as the SEC all-time leader in hits (310), RBI (246), runs scored (234) and total bases (557) … surpassed Rafael Palmeiro for the RBI and total bases’ records … helped guide the Tigers to their second straight College World Series, batting .393 (77-for-247) with 68 RBI and 18 home runs … finished tops on the squad in runs (77), hits (101) and homers … was second on the team in doubles (23) and slugging percentage (.700) … named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA South Regional, hitting .438 (7-for-16) with five homers, two doubles and nine RBI … became LSU’s all-time leader in homers with 52, eclipsing the previous mark of 49 held by Albert Belle (1985-87) … finished the year as the Tigers’ career leader in doubles (61), triples (15), batting average (.396) and slugging percentage (.711) … batted .714 (5-for-7) in LSU’s two CWS games with one homer, one double, two runs and three RBI … connected on a solo blast vs. Florida State that gave him four career CWS homers, tying five other players for the all-time Series record … voted consensus first-team All-America for the second consecutive year by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association and the American Baseball Coaches Association … was also a finalist for the Golden Spikes and Smith Award for the second straight season … in Feb. 1994, named the winner of the James Corbett Award, an honor given annually to the most outstanding collegiate athlete in the state of Louisiana … tallied a team-high 28 multi-hit games and 18 multi-RBI games … finished first in the SEC in runs scored and fourth in batting average, homers, RBI, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.

SOPHOMORE SEASON (1993)
Led LSU to its second national championship in three seasons as he was voted Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series, batting .350 (7-for-20) with three homers and 12 RBI … one of nine finalists for the Golden Spikes Award and one of four finalists for the Smith Award, honors given annually to the nation’s outstanding collegiate baseball player … led the Tigers in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.395), runs (85), hits (109), RBI (102), triples (11), total bases (214), home runs (22) and slugging percentage (.775) … led the SEC in homers (22), RBI (102 – SEC record), total bases (214 – SEC record), runs (85), triples (11), base hits (109) and slugging percentage (.775) … his totals for RBI, hits, runs, total bases and triples were all single-season LSU records … his totals also ranked him sixth in the nation in RBI per game, ninth in slugging percentage, 15th in triples per game and 20th in runs scored per game … set the SEC record for longest hitting streak at 33 games, batting .481 (64-for-133) during the stretch with 12 doubles, seven triples, 10 homers and 49 RBI; the streak began on March 23 and ended on May 9 … on the year, collected at least one hit in 60 of LSU’s 71 games … batted .317 (13-for-41) for the entire NCAA Tournament with six homers and 24 RBI … named to the NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team after hitting .286 (6-for-21) in five games with three homers and 12 RBI … named SEC Player of the Week on March 29 after batting .632 (12-for-19) in five games with three homers and seven RBI … named SEC Player of the Week again on May 10 after batting .500 (9-for-18) in four games with four homers, two doubles, 10 runs and 10 RBI.

FRESHMAN SEASON (1992)
Enjoyed the most phenomenal freshman season in school history and became the first LSU player to hit .400 in a single season … Led the Tigers in batting average (.400), runs (72), hits (100), RBI (76), doubles (21), triples (3), homers (12) and slugging percentage (.652) … also rated first in the SEC in RBI, runs and total bases (163) … ranked third in the league in batting average and doubles … was the only freshman named to the first or second all-conference teams … set an LSU mark for assists with 201 … had a .961 fielding percentage with 10 errors in 306 chances … the Tigers’ clean-up hitter, he was also second on the squad with 18 steals … hit a team-high .406 (39-for-96) in SEC regular-season games with four homers and 22 RBI … was the only player to start all 66 of LSU’s games … had 34 multiple-hit and 20 multiple-RBI games … named to the SEC All-Tournament team as he helped LSU to the tourney title with a .300 (6-for-20) average, two doubles, one homer and five RBI … tied a school record with three doubles in a game at Louisiana College (March 14) … had two separate hitting streaks covering 14 and 12 games … also led the team with 11 game-winning RBI … led LSU to its third straight SEC title in a series sweep of Mississippi State (May 9-10) as he went 4-for-11 with a homer, a double and four RBI … in a three-game series at Alabama (April 25-26), he was 8-for-13 with a homer and two RBI.

HIGH SCHOOL
Named the 1991 Louisiana Class 4A Baseball Player of the Year … also an all-city and all-district selection in 1989, 1990 and 1991 … named the Most Valuable Player in the city and in the district in 1990 and 1991 … earned three letters in baseball, two in soccer and two in football … played centerfield, shortstop and second baseball in baseball, forward in soccer and wide receiver in football … named all-city and all-district in football in 1991 and all-state in soccer in 1991 … helped Airline High to the state runner-up spot in baseball in 1989 and 1991 … a member of the National Honor Society … played baseball for coach Clay Bohanon.
