A highly decorated player and an intelligent student who has an extreme hunger to succeed and an intense work ethic for the game … withdrew from the 2020 MLB Draft – even though he would have been a high draft choice – in order to attend LSU … has the potential to be a true five-tool player; he can run, hit for average, hit for power, has a strong arm and defends at a high level.
2021 Season
Crews was named in June 2021 as the National Freshman of the Year by Perfect Game … he hit .362 (89-for-246) with 16 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, 42 RBI, 64 runs scored and 12 stolen bases … started 60 games in right field and three in center field … LSU’s lead-off hitter in 29 of the Tigers’ 63 games … also received Second-Team All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC recognition, and he was voted the Louisiana Freshman of the Year … Crews’ total of 18 home runs represents the most by a freshman in LSU single-season history, surpassing the mark of second baseman Mike Fontenot, who launched 17 dingers as a freshman in 2000 … Crews finished No. 1 in the SEC in total bases (163), No. 3 in batting average, No. 3 in on-base percentage (.453), No. 4 in base hits, No. 4 in runs scored, No. 5 in doubles and No. 5 in home runs … LSU’s leading hitter in the Tigers’ seven NCAA Tournament games, batting .448 (13-for-29) with two doubles, one triple, five homers, six RBI and eight runs … helped lead LSU to the NCAA Eugene Regional title, earning all-tournament honors as he batted .476 (10-for-21) with two doubles, one triple, three home runs, four RBI and six runs scored; was named to the Eugene Regional All-Tournament team … in LSU’s series win over Alabama (May 14-16), he hit .429 (6-for-14) with two doubles, one homer, four RBI, four runs, and a .429 on-base percentage … 3-for-5 in LSU’s series-clinching win over the Crimson Tide May 16 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored … failed to reach base safely for the first time all season in March 21 game versus Mississippi State, breaking a streak of 20 straight games in which he reached safely … recorded hitting streaks of 11 games and eight games during the year … named SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 23 after hitting .583 (7-for-12) vs. Air Force and La. Tech with two homers, three RBI and two runs.
