A highly decorated player and an intelligent student who has an extreme hunger to succeed and an intense work ethic for the game … projected to be the No. 1 overall selection in the 2023 MLB Draft … withdrew as a high school senior from the 2020 MLB Draft – even though he would have been a high draft choice – in order to attend LSU … a true five-tool player; he can run, hit for average, hit for power, has a strong arm and defends at a high level … claimed a bronze medal at Honkbalweek Haarlem in the Netherlands in the summer of 2022 with the U.S. Collegiate National Team; started all seven of the tournament games in right field, and he drew six walks, scored four runs and drove in one run.

A consensus 2022 first-team All-American and the SEC Co-Player of the Year … started all 62 LSU games in center field, batting .349 (77-for-208) with 11 doubles, four triples, 22 homers, 72 RBI and 73 runs scored … voted LSU’s first SEC Player of the Year since 2012, when outfielder Raph Rhymes received the honor … led the SEC in runs scored (73), and he finished No. 2 in the league in triples (4), No. 3 in RBI (72), No. 3 in total bases (172), No. 4 in home runs (22), No. 4 in slugging percentage (.691), No. 5 in hits (87), No. 5 in on-base percentage (.463) and No. 8 in walks (42) … Crews’ 22 homers represented the most by an LSU player since outfielder Ryan Schimpf also hit 22 home runs in 2009 … batted .373 (28-for-75) on the year with runners in scoring position … hit .358 (43-for-120) in SEC regular-season games with five doubles, 16 homers, 38 RBI and 34 runs … led LSU in multiple-hit games (31) and multiple-RBI games (22) … voted to the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional All-Tournament Team, batting .412 (7-for-17) with two doubles, one homer, four RBI and five runs scored …named SEC Co-Player of the Week on May 9 after he led LSU to a series victory at Alabama, batting a remarkable .636 (7-for-11) in the series with one double, three homers, seven RBI and five runs … he provided the game-winning hit in the Game 1, 6-5 victory over the Crimson Tide, breaking a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning with a two-out RBI single … in Game 2, Crews was 3-for-3 with two homers, three RBI and two runs … in LSU’s series-clinching win in Game 3, he collected a double and a three-run homer while scoring two runs … Blasted three solo homers in the Georgia series (April 29-May 1) including two HRs in LSU’s 4-3, Game 3 win … 5-for-13 in Mississippi State series (April 8-10) with two doubles, one homer, five RBI and four runs … 5-for-14 in the Texas A&M series (March 18-20) with one homer, three RBI and four runs scored … provided the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning on March 20 that lifted the Tigers to a 7-6 win.
2021 Season
Crews was named in June 2021 as the National Freshman of the Year by Perfect Game … he hit .362 (89-for-246) with 16 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, 42 RBI, 64 runs scored and 12 stolen bases … started 60 games in right field and three in center field … LSU’s lead-off hitter in 29 of the Tigers’ 63 games … also received Second-Team All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC recognition, and he was voted the Louisiana Freshman of the Year … Crews’ total of 18 home runs represents the most by a freshman in LSU single-season history, surpassing the mark of second baseman Mike Fontenot, who launched 17 dingers as a freshman in 2000 … Crews finished No. 1 in the SEC in total bases (163), No. 3 in batting average, No. 3 in on-base percentage (.453), No. 4 in base hits, No. 4 in runs scored, No. 5 in doubles and No. 5 in home runs … LSU’s leading hitter in the Tigers’ seven NCAA Tournament games, batting .448 (13-for-29) with two doubles, one triple, five homers, six RBI and eight runs … helped lead LSU to the NCAA Eugene Regional title, earning all-tournament honors as he batted .476 (10-for-21) with two doubles, one triple, three home runs, four RBI and six runs scored; was named to the Eugene Regional All-Tournament team … in LSU’s series win over Alabama (May 14-16), he hit .429 (6-for-14) with two doubles, one homer, four RBI, four runs, and a .429 on-base percentage … 3-for-5 in LSU’s series-clinching win over the Crimson Tide May 16 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored … failed to reach base safely for the first time all season in March 21 game versus Mississippi State, breaking a streak of 20 straight games in which he reached safely … recorded hitting streaks of 11 games and eight games during the year … named SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 23 after hitting .583 (7-for-12) vs. Air Force and La. Tech with two homers, three RBI and two runs.
