ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – As the Lady Tigers continued action in both the Jack Kramer Invitational and the Roberta Alison Classic, sophomore Joana Vale Costa continued her dominant run in California as she advance to play in the finals on Sunday.
In singles play of the Jack Kramer Invitational, two Lady Tigers advanced to play in the semifinals Saturday. Sophomore Abby Owens was defeated by Giuliana Olmos of USC, 6-2, 6-0. Vale Costa advanced to the finals of the Jack Kramer Invitational though with her victory over UCLA senior Kaitlin Ray by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
“Today was a really challenging day with another long rain delay and I felt like some of us handled that better than others,” said LSU head coach Julia Sell. “I’m happy that Joana has a chance to play for the title tomorrow. She really stayed composed through some tough situations today and showed why she belongs in the final.”
In Tuscaloosa, senior Noel Scott had another impressive showing as she secured two more victories at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic. Scott first knocked off Tulane junior Ipek Birol by a score of 6-3, 6-3. In her final match of the day, Scott defeated Loyola Marymount freshman Audrey Marquard, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
