NORMAN, Okla. – LSU Lady Tiger golfers Madelene Sagstrom and Caroline Nistrup both go under par in the opening round Saturday of the Schooner Fall Classic to place LSU in a tie for third at the Belmar Golf Club.
LSU, coming off a second place finish in its opening tournament, is at 3-over par 283 in a tie with Texas A&M after the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event that runs through Monday. Mississippi State was able to come through with the best round of the day, a 3-under par 277 to take the first round lead with SMU in second, one shot ahead of A&M and LSU at 2-over 282.
Sagstrom, the defending champion in the event, fired a good 2-under 68 on her opening round with Nistrup posted 1-under 69. Sagstrom is in a tie for third, one shot out of the lead held by the Mississippi State duo of Jessica Peng and Ally McDonald at 3-under par 67.
Nistrup is in a tie for fifth in the individual competition. The Lady Tigers also counted a good even par round of 70 from Elise Bradley, while Carly Ray Goldstein got it home in 6-over 76.
Bradley is in a tie for 11th place.
