KARUIZAWA, Japan – Caroline Nistrup of Denmark and Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden, both members of the 2014-15 LSU women’s golf team, posted under par rounds Saturday on the final day of play in the World Amateur Team Championships to help their countries to top five finishes at the end of the 72 holes.
Both players shot 1-under 71 on the final day. Sagstrom finished in 17th place in the individual field of 147 with 7-under 281 (72-68-70-71). Sagstrom, who will be a senior this season at LSU, one eagle and 13 birdies for 72 holes and played the par threes at 3-under and the par fives at 5-under.
Nistrup posted a four-round total of 2-under 286 (74-74-67-71) to finish in a tie for 32nd place. The LSU sophomore had 15 birdies and played the par four holes in 4-under par.
Nistrup’s Denmark team finished fourth in the competition, making a big move in Friday’s third round. Denmark finished with a four-round total of 20-under par in the play three, count two player scores competition. Denmark had rounds of 143-139-136-138 for a 556 total, nine shots behind winner Australia which finished at 29-under par.
Sweden moved up to a tie for fifth, one shot back at 19-under par 557. Sagstrom’s score counted every day for her country as they posted rounds of 143-135-141-138. Sweden tied for fifth with the USA.
LSU’s other player in the event, junior Nadine Dreher and her Austria team, finished up in 24th-place in the 50-team field at 6-over 582 (146-145-142-149). Dreher posted a final round score of 76 and finished 72 holes at 16-over 304 (76-78-74-76) and individually finished in at T98.
LSU opens its 2014-15 season in less than two weeks on Sept. 19 at the Mason Rudolph Invitational in Franklin, Tenn.
