KARUIZAWA, Japan – LSU golfers Caroline Nistrup, representing Denmark, and Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden helped both their countries go a long way to securing top 10 spots for their countries as the 50-country World Women’s Amateur Team Championships concluded its third round late Thursday/early Friday.
Nistrup, who will be a sophomore at LSU this year, fired a team best 5-under par 67 for Denmark over the Oshitate Course with five birdies and no bogeys to help her team to a third-day total of 8-under 136 in the play three-count two scoring system and a 54-hole total of 14-under par 418. That moved Denmark into the top 10 in a tie for sixth with the United States.
Sagstrom, a senior at LSU, had her third straight day with a counting score with a 2-under 70 on the Oshitate Course. Sagstrom’s team was 3-under for the day at 141 and 13-under 419 for the three days, standing in a tie for eighth.
Both Nistrup and Sagstrom played the course with a 733 yard 18th hole and both made a par 6 on the lengthy hole.
In the individual competition Sagstrom remains T17 in a field of 147 players at 6-under 210 (72-68-70). Nistrup improved to a T34 position at 1-under 215 (74-74-67).
Junior Nadine Dreher had her best round of the event for Austria with a 2-over 74 and is at 12-over 228 (76-78-74). Austria stands in a tie for 20th and individually Nistrup is T100.
The final round of the event is scheduled for late Friday/early Saturday.
