KARUIZAWA, Japan — LSU senior women’s golfer Madelene Sagstrom helped her Swedish team move up from 10th to 4th with a bogey-free round of 68 on the second day of the World Amateur Team Championships played late Wednesday/early Thursday.

Sagstrom birdied two front nine par 5s and then eagled the par five 496-yard 15th hole to post her 68 to finish 36 holes at 4-under par 140. Along with a 67 by teammate Linnea Strom, Sweden posted 9-under for the round and stands at 10-under par 278 after 36 holes.

Sweden, the two-time winners of the Espirito Santo trophy, is four shots off the lead of Team Canada in the 50-team field at 14-under 274.

Sagstrom who has had one eagle and six birdies to go with 25 pars in her first 36 holes, is 17th in the individual competition which is led by Brooke Henderson of Canada at 9-under 135 (69-66).

LSU’s other golfers in the event did not have counting scores on the second day of the 72-hole play three, count two scores for your country. Caroline Nistrup shot a second straight 74 for Denmark and is at 4-over 148, tied for 64th in the individual event. Denmark is tied for 10th after 36 holes at 6-under 282.

Nadine Dreher posted a 78 and is at 10-over 154, tied for 104th. Austria is tied for 17th at even par 288.

The tournament continues with round three late Thursday/early Friday.
