KARUIZAMA, Japan – Three members of the LSU women’s golf team posted counting scored for their respective countries Wednesday in the opening round of the World Women’s Amateur Team Championships.
The 72-hole event in which three-players play for each country and two scores counts continues with second round play late Wednesday/early Thursday morning.
Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden posted an even par round of 72 as the LSU senior and Linnea Strom (-1) posted a 36-hole total of 1-under par 143 to stand in a tie 11th place in the field of 50 countries. Also in 11th place at the same total, -1, is Denmark and LSU sophomore Caroline Nistrup who posted a 2-over score of 74 to go with a 3-under round of Nanna Koerstz Madsen.
Denmark’s Nadine Dreher, a junior on this LSU women’s squad, shot 4-over 76 to go with a -2 score for team total of 2-over 146 and that is tied for 20th place for her country.
Sagstrom and Dreher’s countries played the Oshitate course which plays 34-38 on the card with a final hole of a par 6, 733-yard hole. Nistrup played the Iriyama Course which plays at the normal 36-36 routing. Sagstrom and Dreher both bogeyed the lengthy 18th hole.
Sagstrom is tied for 34th in the individual competition with Nistrup tied for 50th and Dreher at T85.
