Lady Tigers Fifth Through One Round at Rebel

OXFORD, Miss. – Sophomore Madelene Sagstrom and junior Lindsay Gahm each posted rounds of 1-under par 71 to help the LSU Lady Tigers to a 3-over par total of 291 after the first round Friday of the Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course.

Sagstrom, who has back-to-back runnerup finishes coming into the event, and Gahm are tied for eighth entering Saturday’s second round of the 54-hole event, four shots off the lead.

LSU’s 291 is tied for fifth in the team event with Kentucky seven shots out of the lead of Coastal Carolina at 4-under par 284. Mississippi State and Baylor are tied for second at 1-over 289, while East Tennessee State is fourth at 290.

Sagstrom’s had a four birdie, three bogeys round, shooting 1-under 35 on the back nine to record her 71. Gahm made a nice recovery to get to her 71 after getting in a little trouble that had her two over par after four holes. But she played the last 14 holes of the round in three-under par to get home.

LSU also counted Elisa Bradley with a 1-over 73 and a pair of 4-over 75s from Ali Lucas and Nadine Dreher. Bradley is in a tie for 17th on the individual standings.

The individual leaders at 5-under par 67 are Hayley Davis of Baylor, Chloe Garner of East Tennessee State and Madison Opfer of Tulane. In all, a total of 16 golfers posted even par or below.

The Tigers will go off in the second wave at 10:45 a.m. and will play with Kentucky and East Tennessee State.
