ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU men’s swimming corps delivered a pair of season-best marks in relay competition at the University of Georgia’s Bulldog Last Chance Meet Saturday to improve their chances of qualifying for the 2011 NCAA Championships.
The 200-yard medley relay squad of James Meyers, Andrei Tuomola, Hannes Heyl and Eric Zeller posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1 minute, 26.14 seconds in the evening session, only 14 one-hundredths of a second off the school record and nearly a half-second improvement from its time at SEC’s.
The 200 freestyle relay tandem of Tuomola, Heyl, Zeller and Michael Saco recorded a ‘B’ cut clocking of 1:19.11.
Sophomore Craig Hamilton raced in the 200 free as a tune-up for his mile race, swimming to a mark of 1:41.75. Hamilton is expected to aim for a season best in the 1650 free Sunday in an effort to bolster his prospects for an NCAA bid.
The Day 2 prelims will begin at 9 a.m. (CST) in the Gabrielsen Natatorium, while the evening session will start at 4 p.m.
