Swimming Relay Team Takes All-America Honor

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The LSU women’s 200-yard freestyle relay team earned All-America honors with a 12th-place finish to highlight the Lady Tigers’ efforts Thursday at the 2010 NCAA Championships in Purdue’s Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

The foursome of Jane Trepp, Amanda Kendall, Samantha Goates and Morgan McGee delivered a time of 1 minute, 30.47 seconds in the finals after qualifying with a prelim mark of 1:29.71. The duo of Trepp and Kendall spearheaded the squad in the finals with 50-yard splits of 22.80 and 22.36, respectively, on the first two legs.

“I am proud of these four girls for becoming All-Americans, especially since three of them are here for the first time,” LSU head coach Adam Schmitt said. “I am excited to see what they can do in tomorrow’s prelims.”

The 400 medley relay group of Mary Beck, Trepp, McGee and Kendall swam to a 17th-place finish with a time of 3:40.09.

Trepp led the Lady Tigers in individual racing, registering a tie for 20th in the 50 free with a time of 22.52. Kendall finished 50th in that event with a 23.11 clocking.

Beck also competed individually, racing to a 28th-place finish in the 200 individual medley (1:59.70).

Following Day 1, LSU sits in 26th in the overall team standings.

The Lady Tigers will open Friday’s action with the 200 medley relay. Following the relay prelims, Trepp will swim the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, McGee will take part in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke, Beck will compete in the 100 back and Kendall will race in the 200 free.
