BATON ROUGE ? Allison Falcon continued her strong fall season by driving home four RBIs to lead the LSU softball team to an 8-0 win over Chipola CC Sunday in a rain-shortened, five inning affair at Tiger Park.

“There were many good things that came out of this weekend’s action,” head coach Yvette Giroaurd said. “We received fine pitching performances and executed perfectly on defensive situations. Kirsten and the surprise of the fall, Allison Falcon, had excellent offensive showings.”

Ahead 1-0 in the third inning, Kirsten Shortridge, Ashley Applegate and Juliana Santos strung together a trio of singles to load the bases. Falcon ripped a bases clearing double to right field to extend LSU’s lead to 4-0. Two batters later, Falcon scored on a wild pitch. After a Jessica Mouse walk, Morgan Russell capped the five-run frame with a RBI-double to make it 6-0.

LSU tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning aided by a wild pitch and a Falcon sacrifice fly for the final margin of 8-0.

Chipola CC filled the bases with two outs in the first inning, but Brittany Mack got off the jam by forcing a ground ball to Russell, who stepped on the plate for the final out.

Applegate opened the scoring for the Tigers in the home half of the inning with a sacrifice fly to score Shortridge, who reached on a three-base error.

LSU’s game against Nicholls State and the rest of Sunday’s action was postponed due to rain. A make-up date has yet to be announced.
