COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The 17th-ranked LSU men’s swimming and diving team closed out the 2009 NCAA Championships with an honorable mention All-America finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay Saturday in College Station, Texas.
The foursome of Sean LeNeave, Christoph Lubenau, Brandon Selts and Julius Gloeckner registered a time of 2 minutes, 55.39 seconds in the consolation finals to take 16th overall. The squad earned a spot in the ?B’ final with a preliminary time of 2:54.81 behind a fantastic effort by LeNeave, who led off that relay with the sixth-fastest 100-yard split in school history, 43.90.
The Tigers placed 28th overall at the meet, their third straight top-30 finish.
Gloeckner also improved his school-record mark in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:44.96 to post a 28th-place finish overall in the race. Fellow senior Niko Dalman tallied a season-high 321.90 points in the platform diving preliminaries to finish 18th.
Southeastern Conference powerhouse Auburn won the team title with Texas coming in second. The Tigers emerged victorious in four out of the five relays and racked up 182 of their 526 points in relay competition.
