BATON ROUGE — LSU swimmer Hannes Heyl has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Male Swimmer and Male Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
It is the second time this season the Grosslehna, Germany, native has been named the conference’s freshman of the week.
Heyl had an incredible outing in LSU’s win over the No.18-ranked Texas A&M Aggies as he clinched first place in all four events he participated in. The Grosslehna, Germany native won the 100 back (47.96), 200 back (1:47.99), and 100 fly (49.97). Heyl also was a member of the first place team in the 200 Medley Relay. Heyl teamed with Miko Malberg, James Meyers, Brandon Selts and Julius Gloeckner to clock a time of 1:29.43.
Heyl’s 100 back time against the Aggies currently ranks fifth in the conference.
Heyl previously earned the freshman honor for his efforts in LSU’s win against Delta State in October.
Heyl and the rest of the Tigers return to action in February for the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
