MIAMI, Fla. — Seimone Augustus’ 19 points led the third-ranked LSU Lady Tigers basketball team to a 74-45 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday in to win the 2005 Miami Thanksgiving Classic at Ransom Everglades High School Student Activities Center.
LSU (4-0) jumped out at any early lead and used a 13-0 run early in the game to build a double digit lead. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (0-3) trailed 44-18 at the break and never got any closer that 20 in the second half.
“It was obvious from the start that our kids were focused. That is something we emphasized,” LSU head coach Pokey Chatman said. “Overall we are please with the effort and know we still have some things to correct.”
With her game-high 19 points, Augustus recorded her 66th-straight double figure scoring game and now needs eight points to become the fourth player in school history to reach the 2,000 career point milestone.
Sylvia Fowles added 12 points to the victory, while Quianna Chaney had nine and Scholanda Hoston added eight points.
TAMUCC did not have a player reach double figures and were led by Terra Andrews with nine.
LSU shot 50.0 percent from the floor, including 61.3 percent in the first half, and held the Islanders to 31.4 percent shooting. The Lady Tigers pulled down 43 rebounds to TAMUCC’s 30 and forced the Islanders to commit 22 turnovers.
LSU will return home and have just over two weeks off before hosting New Orleans in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. CST.
