GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The men’s and women’s 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relays wrapped up day one of the 2005 SEC Swimming Championships from the O’Connell Center on Wednesday.
The LSU women’s team sits in seventh place with 83 points, while the LSU men finished the day in eighth with 66 points. Kentucky’s women’s team currently holds first place with 166 points. The Alabama men’s team will carry top honors into Thursday with a tally of 143 points.
In the men’s 200 medley relay, Jared Strecker, Christian Clausen, Ryan Cochran and Miko Malberg posted the Tigers’ fastest time of the year, 1:29.34, to place sixth.
Jan Minartz, Justin Boyes, Leon Cannizzaro and Ryan Cochran took eighth in the 800 free relay (6:50.30).
In the women’s portion of the 800 free relay, Lauren Harvey, Colleen Bertirotti, Clare Schepens and Mallory Neltner swam a time of 7:29.00 to earn sixth-place honors.
Thursday’s schedule will feature the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and the 50 freestyle. Preliminaries of each event begin at 10 a.m. ET and conclude with a finals session at 5 p.m. ET.
