LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The LSU men’s golf team shot a 17-over 301 in the final round of the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms Golf Club to finish the tournament in seventh place with a 32-over 884.
Sophomore Chris Wells led the Tigers with his second top-10 finish of the season, a tie for seventh with a 3-over 216.
“Chris has just been solid all year with only a couple of rounds over par,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “He’s just a solid player that goes about his business, is very methodical and doesn’t seem to get rattled easily.”
Senior Heath West recorded his second top-20 finish of the season by tying for 19th with a 7-over 220, and freshman Beck Troutman finished in a tie for 40th with a 12-over 225 in his first collegiate tournament. Sophomore Garrett Runion and senior Jake Shaw finished in a tie for 58th and 64th, respectively.
Tournament host Northwestern won the team championship by four strokes over Duke, while Purdue’s Peter Richardson was the only individual in red figures with a 1-under 212.
“We need to work on our mental game in how we prepare and approach our next tournament,” said Jones. “The talent, skill and desire is there to succeed, we just need to refocus ourselves and go to work.”
The Tigers will return to action Oct. 11-12 at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Invitational at Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.
