Tiger Golfers in Sixth After Two Rounds

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s golf team shot a 4-over par 580 Saturday in the first day of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges Golf and Country Club in Johnson City, Tenn., to stand in sixth place after two rounds.

LSU found itself in 12th place after shooting a 10-over 298 in the first round but recovered by firing a second-round 6-under 282.

“We played really well in the afternoon and I thought we made some adjustments before the second round that propelled us to that finish,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “It was really a great team effort by our guys.”

The Tigers were led in scoring by senior Heath West, who is tied for 10th place after shooting a 1-under 143. Sophomore Garrett Runion finished one stroke behind West in a 15th-place tie with an even-par 144, and sophomore transfer Chris Wells is in a tie for 19th after shooting a 1-over 145 in his first action as a Tiger. Wells’ 4-under 68 in the second round was the low round of the day for LSU.

Oklahoma leads the tournament after opening with a 4-under 572, two shots better than Clemson, TCU and Tennessee who finished with a 2-under 574. Anthony Kim of Oklahoma is the low individual after recording a pair of 68s for an 8-under 136. Final-round action will begin Sunday at 8 a.m.
