BATON ROUGE — Eight members of LSU’s national championship team from 2003 are among 31 former Tigers listed on NFL opening day rosters as the league begins its first week of play this weekend.
Of the 31 former Tigers in the NFL, 21 of them spent either all of part of their LSU career during the Nick Saban era.
The Patriots lead the way among NFL teams with former Tigers as five players with LSU ties are listed on New England’s opening day roster. Those players include rookies Randall Gay and Marquise Hill, along with veterans Rohan Davey, Kevin Faulk and Jarvis Green.
The eight members of LSU’s 2003 national team who have made it to an NFL roster to start the 2004 season include Gay and Hill with the Patriots, along with Matt Mauck (Denver), offensive guard Stephen Peterman (Dallas), Michael Clayton (Tampa Bay), Eric Edwards (Arizona), Devery Henderson (New Orleans), and Chad Lavalais (Atlanta).
The Tigers also have a handful of players who have been added to practice squads for teams around the league. Among those include Eric Alexander (New England), Donnie Jones (Seattle), and Adrian Mayes (Arizona).
