PARIS — A quartet of current and former LSU track and field athletes are slated to compete at the ninth IAAF World Championships this Monday and Tuesday.
LSU senior Hazelann Regis, as well as former Lady Tiger track star Ronetta Smith are scheduled to continue competition today, running in the semifinals of the women’s 400 meters. Both Regis and Smith advanced through yesterday’s first qualifying round, each recording fourth-place finishes in their respective heats.
Smith, competing for her native country of Jamaica, posted the field’s 13th fastest qualifying mark (51.62), while Regis, running for her native Grenada, finished with the field’s 19th fastest mark.
Seeing action on the track tomorrow, August 26, will be former Tigers Alleyne Francique and Claston Bernard. Francique will take on the top quarter-milers in the world in the finals of the 400 meters, while Bernard will begin the first day of competition in the men’s decathlon.
Fans can follow the Tigers and Lady Tigers this week at the World Championships as the meet will be televised daily on ESPN2. Monday’s coverage is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (CST), while action on Tuesday will begin at 1:30 p.m.
