SENIOR SEASON (2002)
Helped the Tigers clinch the national title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, winning the decathlon competition with a personal best 8,094 points … Point total ranks third all-time at LSU … Earned All-SEC honors during the outdoor season, finishing second in the high jump at the conference meet (7-2 1/4) … During the indoor season qualified for the NCAA Championships in the high jump … Finished 14th in the event with a clearance of 6-10 1/4 … Crowned the SEC Indoor champion in the men’s pentathlon (4,350) … Named to the All-Louisiana state track and field team in the high jump, 110-meter hurdles and the decathlon.

JUNIOR SEASON(2001)
Became only the third man in LSU history to reach the 8,000-point plateau, becoming the first man in SEC history to win three consecutive SEC decathlon titles in the process … His SEC-winning total of 8,024 points was the second highest in SEC history, trailing only former LSU great Mikael Olander’s total of 8,126 in 1988 … Bernard registered personal best in seven of 10 events en route to victory … His first day total of 4,271 was an SEC Championship record, breaking the previous mark of 4,195 by Olander, also in 1988 … Set an LSU school record for first day points at the Texas A&M Multi-Event competition with a total of 4,342, en route to a two-day total of 7,833 … Also a seven-foot high jumper, Bernard finished fourth at the SEC Indoor Championships in the event and cleared 7-0 1/4 in the high jump in the decathlon competition at the SEC Championships … He registered the only 8,000 point effort was the only one by an athlete in the 2001 season … His season came to an unfortunate end when he pulled a hamstring in the opening event of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

SOPHOMORE SEASON(2000)
Picked up right where he left off his freshman season, winning the SEC decathlon title, while continuing his climb up the NCAA ladder … Finished second in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a PR total and Jamaican national record 7,806 points, the highest finish for a Tiger since Mario Sategna won the event in 1995 … Competed in the Sydney Olympics for his native Jamaica in September, 2000… Won the SEC title with a then-PR total of 7,706 before climbing to the fifth spot on the school’s all-time list with his NCAA runner-up total … Opened the outdoor season in fine fashion, going 7,536 under terrible conditions to win the title at Texas A&M.

FRESHMAN SEASON(1999)
Pulled off one of the great accomplishments in LSU and SEC history, becoming only the second freshman to win the SEC decathlon title with a two-day total of 7,444 (10.94; 22-41/4; 47-7; 6-83/4; 49.35; 15.19; 143-2; 12-11/2; 175-4; 4:52.50), smashing his previous PR by 604 points … Set PRs in nine of the 10 events at the SEC and won five events (100m, discus, javelin, shot put and high jump) … His total was the seventh-highest in school history at the time… Continued his hot streak two weeks later in Boise, Idaho at the NCAA Outdoor Championships where he finished fifth with a score of 7,395, earning his first All-American honor … Finished second at the Texas Relays with a then-PR score of 6,840 in his first collegiate decathlon competition … During the indoor season he ran the 400 meter leg on the Tigers’ DMR, a squad that finished fourth at the SEC meet in a season-best time of 9:59.79

PREP CAREER
Qualified for the World Junior Championships in Annecy, France in 1998 for his native Jamaica … His versatility is witnessed through the two events he won at World Juniors … the high jump and the discus … Finished 13th at World Juniors … Won the C.A.C. Gold Medal in the decathlon and was a Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalist at Carifta between 1995-98 … Also an accomplished soccer and cricket player.
