Junior season (2001)
Burst onto the scene and quickly emerged as one of the top quarter milers in the nation … The anchor of LSU’s NCAA champion 4×400-meter relay, he helped LSU break the school record indoors and on two occasions outdoors … Ran a personal best time of 44.99 in the 400-meter dash in his runner-up finish at the SEC Outdoor Championships … His time represents the fastest among returning athletes for the 2002 season … The SEC Indoor runner-up in the 400-meter dash as well, he owns an indoor PR of 45.73ot … Finished second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to eventual world champion Avard Moncur of Auburn, running a time of 45.36 in the finals … Won his preliminary heat in a time of 45.43 … Made the finals and finished seventh at the World Championships in the 400-meter dash last summer … Anchored LSU’s 4×400-meter relay team to a world-leading 3:04.44 during the indoor season to win the NCAA title in the event and clinch the team competition at the same time … Came up with a 44.98 anchor split on that relay to eliminate a 10-meter deficit and edge Baylor for victory … During the outdoor season he anchored LSU to school record times of 3:01.73 at the Tom Tellez Invitational, then a time of 3:01.66 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the fastest collegiate time of the 2001 season.
