Football Team Honored at Annual Banquet

BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team, less than 24 hours removed from winning the Southeastern Conference championship, was honored with its annual banquet on Sunday night at the Maravich Assembly Center.

Highlighting the list of awards for the Tigers were quarterback Rohan Davey and wide receiver Josh Reed, who shared the Charles McClendon Most Valuable Player Award. Davey became the first quarterback in LSU history to pass for over 3,000 yards in a season, while Reed won the Biletnikoff Award and set the Southeastern Conference’s single-season and career receiving yards record this season. The MVP award for Reed is the second for the junior as he won the award last year as well.

Reed also won the Percy Roberts Outstanding Offensive Player Award, while linebacker Trev Faulk, with a team-best 119 tackles, was named the Percy Roberts Outstanding Defensive Player.

The National L-Club Award, given annually to the team captains, went to Davey, Faulk and tight end Robert Royal.

Offensive lineman Rodney Reed, who carries a 3.8 grade point average, was named the Academic Tiger of the Year, while placekicker Kris Kessler was honored with the Charles Coates Student Athlete Award.

Quarterback Matt Mauck, defensive end Kyle Kipps and safety Ryan Clark won the Alvin Roy Award, while wide receiver Jerel Myers was the recipient of the Butch Duhe award.
