NEW ORLEANS — LSU freshmen Sebastian Rutka and Bryan Fisher reached the finals of their respective draws by winning back-to-back matches on Saturday at the Tulane Invitational in New Orleans.
Fisher, playing in flight “B” of the singles draw, defeated Derya Rose of Tulane, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinal before beating Niclas Cateret of Southern Miss, 7-6, 7-5, to advance to Sunday’s final.
Rutka, playing in flight “A’s” consolation draw, took a three-set victory from David Winning of UL-Lafayette, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6, before beating Peter Szczpanski of UNO, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the consolation final.
The two freshmen also advanced to the flight “A” doubles final by beating UL-Lafayette’s team of David Winning and Jacob Ilowski, 8-6.
The tournament concludes Sunday at the Goldring Tennis Stadium in New Orleans.
