Percy E. Roberts Award

Award is presented to the outstanding player on both offense and defense … A longtime member of the LSU Board of Supervisors who was a loyal supporter of LSU and its athletic program … Roberts, who operated an insurance agency in Baton Rouge, began the award in 1927 … In 1965, the award was split to include an offensive and defensive player.

George M. Wallace Award

Award is presented to the team’s leading tackler … A native of Winnfield, La., Wallace served as executive counsel to every Louisiana governor beginning with Huey Long in the 1930s and continuing until his passing in the early 1960s … Originally, the award was presented to the player who logged the most minutes played.

Jeff Boss Award

Award is presented annually by the Bengal Belles and goes to the player(s) who made significant contributions to the success of the team and received the least recognition. … Named in honor of LSU’s longtime equipment manager, Jeff Boss … Developed a cleat for Nike (The Boss Shark) … Served as LSU’s equipment manager for 24 years until his untimely passing in October of 2003 … LSU’s Gameday football locker room is named for him.

Dr. Charles E. Coates Award

Award is presented annually to the senior who has demonstrated the highest commitment to academics with the combination of excellence on the field … Head coach of LSU’s first football team in 1893 … Also served as a faculty member … Was the third Ph.D. in LSU’s academic history … Known worldwide for his work in sugar chemistry and served as Dean of the Audubon Sugar School … Coates Hall on the LSU campus is named for him.

Alvin Roy Award

A pioneer in strength training … Introduced weight lifting to the LSU football team in the 1950s and the school later went on to produce 1959 Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon and captured the 1958 national title … At the time, very few, if any, college football teams were using weight training as part of their regiment … Later went on to serve as a strength coach in the NFL for the Chargers, Chiefs, Cowboys, Saints and Raiders … Won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs and appeared in another Super Bowl with the Cowboys … Award is presented to the player(s) who have shown the most dedication to individual and team goals of LSU’s year-round strength and conditioning program.
