Tomika Smith
Tomika D Smith is entering her third season as the Director of Student-Athlete Engagement, a position she began in June 2022.
Tomika is a dedicated, higher education professional who specializes in event design and coordination, leadership development and training, risk management, program management and assessment, and strategic marketing. In the Tiger Life, Tomika serves as the primary advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and the Black Student-Athlete Association (BSAA). She supports and serves LSU student-athletes through facets of career preparation, personal enhancement, civic engagement, and diversity and inclusion.
Tomika hails from the great state of Kentucky. There she received a bachelor’s degree in Corporate & Organizational Communications from Western Kentucky University in 2010. After undergrad, Tomika transitioned into a Sales Consultant position at AT&T in Louisville, Ky. After achieving record breaking sales, ranking her number one in the nation three consecutive years, Tomika was promoted to a leadership role within the company. Two years later, Tomika left the corporate sector in hopes of obtaining her master’s degree and making the switch to higher education. Tomika graduated in 2017 from University of Louisville with her master’s in education with a counseling and college student personnel focus.
After graduation, Tomika accepted a role at Harvard University as the Assistant Director of Student Programs in the Dean of Students Office. As Assistant Director, Tomika made tremendous programmatic strides and advancements for the Office of Student Engagement. She expanded the Office’s portfolio of programs and events, restructured the college’s existing programming board, and created the department’s new late night programming board and initiative — Crimson After Dark.
Tomika transitioned to New Orleans in 2020 and accepted a role at Tulane University in the Center for Academic Equity. As Associate Director of Academic Equity, she developed, created and advocated for equitable programs, events, funding opportunities, policies and services for marginalized communities. She also designed and hosted trainings & retreats to offer professional development opportunities to staff.
