A member of the LSU Sports Communications staff since August 1988, Kent Lowe was appointed senior associate communications director in August 2000. He serves as the primary media contact for the LSU men’s basketball team and the women’s golf team while assisting in the overall Sports Communications office in other sports as needed.
Lowe has had the chance to work with several of the top Tiger basketball stars of the past 35 years including two with their names hanging in the rafters in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center – Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and Shaquille O’Neal. He was a part of the communications efforts as the 2006 team advanced under Coach John Brady to the NCAA Final Four and has been a part of SEC basketball championship teams in 1991, 2000, 2006 and 2019.
In women’s golf, LSU has been a part of the communications efforts for two SEC Championships and multiple NCAA championship appearances, including the third-place finishes in the 2011 and 2012 national tournaments. He also was involved in the communications efforts for consensus 2024 national player of the year Ingrid Lindblad, who won every major women’s amateur award that season, and set an SEC record with 15 individual tournament victories.
He has also since 1993 written an award-winning bowling column, first for The (Baton Rouge) Advocate and for the last two years, his “Spare Notes” has appeared at WBRZ.com. Besides, his coverage of the state high school bowling championships the last 20 years, he has covered such major events as the NCAA women’s championships and the USBC Queens and the USBC Open championship which has come to Baton Rouge for multi-month runs three times in the last 20 years. In 2018, he was inducted into the Louisiana State Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his service to the sport.
Lowe, who in entering his 39th year at LSU, came to LSU from Louisiana Downs where he served as publicity director and radio network host for the Bossier City, Louisiana racetrack during some of its best-known racing years.
Lowe is a member of the College Sports Communicators, which voted his 2010 men’s basketball media guide “Best in the Nation” and his 2012 men’s basketball guide third in the nation. He has served for many years as a member of CSC’s prestigious Academic All-American committee as well.
Lowe is also a past president and current treasurer of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and has won numerous first-place awards in the group’s annual writing contest. This past summer, he teamed with fellow communications staff members Michael Bonnette and Bill Franques to win the LSWA’s “Best Podcast” award as co-host of the LSU Sports Information podcast on LSU+.
The Shreveport native is heavily involved with the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and for over 20 years helped host and produce the regionally-televised induction ceremonies.
Lowe is a 1979 graduate from LSU-Shreveport. He earned his masters’ degree at LSU in 1982.
