SENIOR SEASON (2006-07)
Led the team in stroke average for the second straight year at 75.40 for 32 rounds … Finishes her career with the seventh (twice, 75.00) and ninth (75.40) best single season stroke averages in school history … Career stroke average of 75.58 is the third best in school history … Her 123 rounds played is the eighth best in a career at LSU … Had two more top 10s to finish with 10 for her career … Finished fourth in the Cougar Classic at one-under 215 (73-69-73) and sixth at the Liz Murphey Intercollegiate at six-over 219 (70-73-76) … Five rounds at par or under, giving her 17 for her career … Just two rounds in the 80s … Played eventual NCAA Champion, Stacey Lewis of Arkansas, to all square in a match with Arkansas in the NGCA Hooter’s Women’s National Match Play Championship.
JUNIOR SEASON (2005-06)
Led the team in stroke average at 75.00 for 37 rounds, ironically exactly the same stroke average as her sophomore season, but for 10 more rounds … Equals the seventh best single season stroke average at LSU … Having played in all 37 possible rounds for the season, becomes the fifth golfer at LSU to play that many in a single season, joining Michelle Louviere, Laura Moore, Katy Harris and Ashley Winn in the 1997-98 season … Career stroke average for 91 rounds in three seasons at LSU of 75.66 ranks her third all-time behind only U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion Meredith Duncan (75.01, 1999-02) and All-American Katy Harris (75.48, 1998-01) … Had three top 10 finishes to up her career total to eight — fifth in the Central District Invitational (74-76-73 — 223), second in the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic (73-66-72, 211) and for the second straight year, a tie for fifth at SEC Women’s Golf Championships (76-76-68 — 220) … Six-under 66 in the second round at the LSU University Club Course in the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic marked the second lowest round in school history … Tied for 20th in the NCAA East Regional with a four-over 220 (70-76-74) … Just three rounds in the 80s this season and 34 rounds counted for team score.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2004-05)
Second on the team in stroke average at 75.00 for 27 rounds, after averaging 73.75 for the 12 rounds in the fall … Seventh player in LSU’s women’s golf history to average 75 or better for a season … Fifth best career scoring average, 76.13, in school history … Dropped scoring average over two strokes from 77.26 in her freshman year to 75.00 … Four top 10s this year — tie 10th at Mercedes-Benz Championships (74-73-75 — 222); tie 5th at SEC/ACC Challenge (73-69-73 — 215); tie 9th at Lady Gamecock Classic (79-76-81 — 236); and tie fifth at SEC Women’s Championships (77-73-75 — 225) … 69 in second round at SEC/ACC Challenge marks 16th time an LSU player has shot three under or better in a round … Five career top 10s … Team best 24.5 of 27 rounds counted for team score (90.7%) and 25 of 27 rounds in the 70s.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2003-04)
Played in nine tournaments, 27 rounds, averaging 77.26 … Had one top ten, finishing in a tie for sixth in the Central District Tournament (75-75-75 – 225), helping LSU to a team victory … Had two other top 20 finishes, finishing 17th in the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic and 20th in the Lady Gamecock Classic … Had low round of 71 in the middle round of the Furman Lady Paladin.

Participated in hockey, swimming and tennis, besides golf at the Port Shepstone High School … Began playing golf at the age of 12 … In December 2000, both Melissa and her sister were invited to join the Ernie Els Foundation, a non-profit organization started by the South African PGA star to help develop junior golfers through 2003 … In 2001, Melissa was selected to represent the South African Golf Foundation in the Junior Dutch International event, placing sixth … Ranked 10th in the South African Ladies Order of Merit.
