FRESHMAN SEASON (2006-07)
Shattered two school records in his first season … Broke the 1000 free school record by six seconds, posting a time of 9:11.50 in a win versus No. 10 Florida State … Time eclipsed Ross Buffington’s old mark of 9:17.58 in 2000 … Also broke Buffington’s school record in the 1650 free, swimming a mark of 15:21.78 at the Art Adamson Invitational … Placed eighth in the 1650 free at the SEC Championships (15.31.48) and finished seventh in the 500 free consolation final (4:28.97) … Recorded the fourth-best 500 free time in school history at the Art Adamson Invitational (4:26.92) … Earned his first varsity letter.
PRIOR TO LSU
One of the top swimmers in the state of Texas … Expected to make an immediate impact as a freshman … Earned letters in swimming, cross country and track at Elgin High School … Capped an impressive senior season by winning the class 4A state championship in the 500 freestyle (4:27.37) and 200 free (1:41.03) … Time in the 500 free was the sixth-best among all high school swimmers in the nation and a class 4A state record … For his career, won the 500 free state title three times and the 200 free twice … 2006 sectional champion in the 500 and 1000 free … Summer National qualifier in the 800 free and a Spring National qualifier in the 500 and 1000 free … Coached in swimming by Aubrey Knapper.
