Talented and versatile offensive threat for the Tigers … Shifty runner who displays a knack for making defenses miss … Gives the Tigers experience at running back as well as both kick returner and punt returner … Has displayed the ability to perform in big games … Carried the Tigers to a September win over Georgia in 2003 … Heads into senior season in a battle with three other talented players for carries at the running back spot … Can also lineup as a wideout … Moved to running back midway through the 2002 season after seeing action at wide receiver for the first five games … Gives the Tigers a dimension on offense not seen since the days of Kevin Faulk.
JUNIOR SEASON (2004)
Played in six games for the Tigers with 112 yards rushing and 1 TD on 28 carries … Rushed for 36 yards and a score against Arkansas … Also returned punts and kickoffs … Returned 5 punts for 19 yards, all coming against Mississippi State.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2003)
Played in eight games with no starts … Rushed for 338 yards and 6 touchdowns for the Tigers … Started season in a rotation at running back with Joseph Addai … Responded with a career-best 124 yards and a TD in win over Western Illinois … Carried the Tigers to a September win over Georgia with 73 yards and a TD on 18 rushes … Scored at least 1 TD in LSU’s first six games, including two in the road win over Mississippi State … A knee injury (MCL – no surgery needed) against Mississippi State forced Carey to the sidelines for four consecutive games … Returned to action vs. Alabama and had 9 yards on 5 carries … Rushed for 11 yards against both Ole Miss and Arkansas … Did not play against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game or against Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl … Averaged 10.8 yards on 18 punt returns in 2003.
REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON (2002)
Saw action for the first time for LSU in 2002 after sitting out the 2001 season gaining eligibility … Played in nine games with no starts … Rushed for 97 yards and 1 TD … Caught 5 passes for 41 yards … Rushed for 68 yards and 1 TD on 6 carries in debut at running back in win over South Carolina … Scored on a 13-yard run vs. the Gamecocks … Had career-long run of 42 yards against South Carolina … Started year as a wide out for the Tigers, but then shifted to the backfield following the Louisiana-Lafayette game … Made the move to running back after the injury to LaBrandon Toefield.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2001)
A member of the team, but did not see any game action for the Tigers in 2001.
HIGH SCHOOL
First-Team 5A All-State selection as a senior in 1999 … Played quarterback as a senior and threw for 2,218 yards and 22 touchdowns to go with only 1 interception … Rushed for 8.9 yards per carry as a senior and during his career, totaled 4,159 yards rushing and was responsible for 82 touchdowns … Selected as the All-Metro New Orleans MVP … Rated as the No. 1 prospect in Louisiana in 1999 … Member of the Baton Rouge Advocate’s Super Dozen as well as the New Orleans Times-Picayune’s Top 16 Blue Chip list for the state of Louisiana in 1999 … Originally signed with Tennessee out of high school … Did not play for the Vols and signed with the Tigers in February of 2001 … Coached by Hank Tierney.
