Served as LSU’s backup quarterback … Made first career start vs. Ole Miss … Played the first quarter in LSU’s 14-13 win over the Rebels … Saw action in three games in 2002 for the Tigers — vs. Florida, Alabama and Ole Miss … Completed 5-of-12 passes for 35 yards and one interception … Hit on 3-of-6 passes vs. Alabama … Completed 2-of-6 passes for 9 yards in start vs. Ole Miss … Brother Casey is starting quarterback for Tennessee … Rick and Casey both started for SEC teams on the same day (Rick vs. Ole Miss and Casey vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 23, 2002) … It is believed to be the first time in league history that brothers started at quarterback for two different teams in the SEC on the same day.

Redshirted last year as a true freshman … Served as LSU’s scout team quarterback and was singled out by LSU coach Nick Saban for his simulation of Tennessee starting quarterback (brother Casey) the week of the SEC Championship game … Graduated high school early and went through spring drills with the Tigers in 2001.

Named All-League, All-City, All-South California and Academic All-State after completing 264-of-430 passes for 3,361 yards and 38 touchdowns as a senior for Taft High School … Named All-America by Blue Chip Illustrated, SuperPrep and Prepstar … Led team to a 10-3 overall mark and a berth in the state playoffs as a senior … Named Los Angeles Times California Player of the Week one time and was selected as a member of the Los Angeles Times High School All-America squad … Also played basketball in high school … Coached in high school by Troy Starr.
