Twelve Track & Field Athletes Earn Academic Honors

Baton Rouge, La. – Twelve athletes from the LSU track and field program were honored with academic achievement awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Friday (July 23).

To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. Individuals also must have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the nominating institution.

Athletically, athletes had to be ranked inside the top 96 of their individual event indoors or been on a relay that was ranked inside the top 48 to get a bid. If they didn’t meet requirements indoors, they had to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships individual or on a relay squad.

LSU’s athletes that met the requirements were Davis Bove, Sean ‘Squirrel’ Burrell, Adam Wise, Jonathan Witte, Mercy Abire Matanmi, Nyagoa Bayak, Serena Bolden, Sara Funderburk, Lisa Gunnarsson, Amber Hart, Shanya Luna, and Alicia Stamey.
