Grad Transfer Newby Joins Women’s Basketball Team

BATON ROUGE – LSU women’s basketball head coach Nikki Fargas has announced the addition of graduate transfer Autumn Newby to the Tigers’ family. Newby will transfer from Vanderbilt following completion of her undergraduate degree.

“Autumn Newby brings a wealth of experience to our team,” said Fargas. “She’s relentless on the floor and plays with great passion and energy. In this league, you have to have bigs that can score, battle on the boards, sprint the floor, and do the little things that result in a positive impact. Autumn will be a great addition to the Tiger family and we are ecstatic to have her.”

She recorded seven or more rebounds in 11 games and led the team in rebounding six times. Her season stats line included 125 points, 37 assists, 36 steals, five blocks and a 41.6 field goal percentage. She started 28 games as a sophomore and was second on the team with 6.7 rebounds per game. As a freshman, Newby was the team’s leading rebounder with 6.6 per game in 29 starts.

Newby was a four-year varsity starter at Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She was ranked among top 30 players in the nation by espnW.com. As a senior at Archer, she averaged 12.7 points and 12.6 rebounds per game and earned second team All-State honors. Newby averaged 13.1 points and 13.1 rebounds per game as a junior.

Newby is graduating from Vanderbilt with a degree in psychology and medicine, health and society.
