Soccer Has Four Named to SEC Preseason Watch List

Baton Rouge, La. Chiara Ritchie-Williams, Shannon Cooke, Tinaya Alexander, and Maddie Moreau were named to the 2020 SEC Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Watch List on Thursday morning, the conference office announced.

Ritchie-Williams and Moreau will serve as LSU team captains for the 2020 season. Ritchie-Williams has spent her first three season as the anchor of LSU’s backline, but she will move up to the midfield position this fall. She has appeared in 60 career matches for LSU and was named to the 2017 SEC All-Second Team as a defender during her freshman season. Moreau was named to the All-SEC Second Team and All-SEC Freshman Team a year ago in her debut season. She played in and started all 18 matches a year ago for the Tigers and scored her first collegiate goal in a road match against Georgia on Sept. 26, 2019.

Cooke returns for year three in the Purple and Gold. Known most for her top bins rocket in the 2018 SEC Tournament championship match that led LSU to the SEC title, she will serve as a vocal voice on LSU’s backline at outside back primarily; Cooke has scored two career goals, both of which came at the 2018 SEC Tournament. Alexander, a redshirt junior, is LSU’s most experienced offensive producer coming into the 2020 season as she has tallied three goals and 13 assists in 46 career matches. All three of her goals came during her freshman campaign and she looks poised to have a stellar 2020 campaign. She only played in four matches during the 2019 season before suffering a season-ending injury.

LSU opens up the 2020 season on Saturday at Arkansas with a 3 p.m. CT start time on the SEC Network.
