Tigers Tied for Fourth at Southwestern Invitational as Play Suspended

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The LSU men’s golf team completed one round of play and nearly completed the second round as play at the Southwestern Invitational was suspended for darkness. Teams will complete the second round and then proceed to play the final round Tuesday at North Ranch Country Club.

LSU is tied for fourth following the suspension of play. The Tigers finished the first round at 4-over 292 and are at 10-over so far for the second round. LSU trails the host team, Pepperdine, Southern California and Arizona State. California is tied with LSU. Pepperdine leads the field with a 3-under two-round score.

Round One Recap

LSU grinded through the front nine at North Ranch Country Club and was then able to climb the leaderboard as several clutch birdies and eagles were carded through the back nine. As a team, the Tigers finished the first round in second with a 4-over 292 score.

Chris Woollam turned in the best score of the first round for the Tigers with a 1-under 71. He carded two eagles and a birdie through a span of four holes to move his score under par, where he finished the round. Woollam’s two eagles on holes No. 12 and 15 are the first eagles of his career at LSU. Woollam started the round 2-over on the front nine, but found his rhythm to rebound and finish 3-under on the back nine. In addition to the two eagles, he also recorded three birdies and seven pars in his round. He finished tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard at the completion of round one.

Garrett Barber finished the round with an even par 72. He turned in a scorecard with seven birdies, seven bogeys and four pars that put him tied for 12th in the individual standings after 18 holes. Barber led the field in par four scoring with a 3.85 average, including two birdies.

Philip Barbaree sat tied for 15th as he turned in a 1-over 73 for the first round. His scorecard consisted of four birdies, five bogeys and nine pars.

Michael Sanders finished the first round with a 4-over 76, while Hayden White had an 8-over 80.

Round Two Recap

Through just 12 holes, Garrett Barber has produced the best round for LSU so far in round two of the Southwestern Invitational. Barber finished the front nine 1-over with three bogeys, two birdies and four pars. Three holes into the back nine, he carded a par, bogey, then birdie to stay at 1-over as play was suspended. Barber is currently tied for 10th as an individual.

Philip Barbaree and Michael Sanders are both at 2-over so far in the second round. Sanders has completed 15 holes, while Barbaree has finished 12.

Following a solid opening round, Chris Woollam is 5-over through 15 holes. Hayden White is the lone Tiger to finish all 36 holes for the day as he finished with a 15-over 87 second round score.

Round two of the tournament will resume at 9:20 a.m. CT Tuesday. Once the second round is complete, teams will be re-paired and tee times for round three will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m. CT.
