Women’s Basketball Hosts Rutgers Sunday Night

BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s basketball team hosts a rare Sunday night game at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on November 24, 2019 at 7 p.m. as Rutgers travels to Baton Rouge. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

It is also Fansgiving at the PMAC on Sunday night. Fans get into the game free if they bring a non-perishable food item in exchange for a ticket. Donations will benefit the LSU Food Pantry and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

The Lady Tigers are 4-1 on the season after a 62-52 victory against Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday. Three players scored in double figures for LSU, led by senior Ayana Mitchell with her third double-double of the season of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Junior transfer Awa Trasi came off the bench for 11 points and junior Faustine Aifuwa scored 10.

For Aifuwa, it was the seventh consecutive game that the center from Dacula, Georgia, has scored in double figures, going back to the final two games of the 2018-19 season.

Junior Khayla Pointer is leading LSU with 15.0 points and 4.0 assists per game, while Aifuwa is second on the squad with 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Senior Ayana Mitchell, a Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy candidate, is averaging 11.6 points and team-leading 9.6 rebounds to start the season.

LSU continues its solid play on scoring defense, holding teams to 55.0 points per game. The Lady Tigers have held two opponents to 50 points or under twice and four opponents under 60 so far this season.

Rutgers is 4-0 on the young season and is coached by Hall of Fame legend C. Vivian Stringer. Stringer has been named a 2020 Wooden Award Legend of Coaching.

The Scarlet Knights are led by junior guard Arella Guirantes, a transfer from Texas Tech, with 21.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Junior forward Tekia Mack is also averaging double figures with 16.8 points per game and leads the team with 7.8 board per game.

Rutgers leads the series 8-2 following last year’s game in Piscataway. The teams are split 1-1 in Baton Rouge.

Geaux Clear at the PMAC

Fans are reminded that the Geaux Clear Policy will be in effect for all LSU women’s basketball home games. Diaper bags must be clear and no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″. Backpacks, including drawstring/synch bags are strictly prohibited.

Fans with medically-necessary items will be allowed to enter the PMAC following a more thorough search at the designated inspection points. The lower level inspection will take place at the southeast corner entrance near the elevator and upper level inspection is available at the South concourse near the Ticket Office.
