Men’s Tennis Inks Blue-Chip Recruit Ben Koch

BATON ROUGE— As the current LSU men’s tennis team gets ready for their upcoming Spring season, head coaches Andy Brandi and Chris Brandi announced the signing of Ben Koch during 2019 National Signing Day. Koch will be a freshman and eligible to play in the 2020-21 season.

The Abbeville, Louisiana native is a five-star, blue-chip recruit according to tennisrecruiting.com. Koch is the 14th ranked player in the 2019 class, along with a 13 UTR rating. He compiled 36 wins in his latest season, along with three tournament wins.

“Ben is a blue-chip player and person,” Co-head coach Chris Brandi said. “He’s got a tremendous family and support behind him. His best years are ahead of him. He’s going to win a lot of matches for the Tigers and be a great teammate and leader one day.”

Koch is adding onto the successful recruiting classes that Andy Brandi and Chris Brandi have been able to have since being at LSU. The 2019 recruiting class was ranked No. 11 on tennisrecruiting.net, which is the highest LSU has been ranked in school history, besting 2018’s class which checked in at No. 21.

“To bring this program back to national prominence, you have to recruit at the highest level. We’ve had two ranked recruiting classes in a row and Ben will help continue that trend,” Chris Brandi said.
