Baton Rouge— The LSU men’s tennis team wrap up their Fall competitions Wednesday as Joey Thomas and Daniel Moreno head to Newport Beach, California, to compete in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship.
Two weeks removed from Thomas and Moreno’s doubles championship at the ITA Southern Regional, the duo looks to continue their success on the highest stage.
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features 64 of the nation’s top collegiate singles players and 32 doubles teams. In its third year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, it is the lone event on the collegiate tennis calendar to feature competitors from all five divisions playing in the same tournament.
The doubles draw consists of four ITA All-American Semifinalists, two ITA All-American Consolation Finalists, 12 ITA Regional Champions, one ITA Cup Champion, one Oracle wild card, two ITA Wild Cards, and ten at-large selections.
The LSU men’s tennis team hasn’t had a participant in the ITA National Fall Championships, previously known as the ITA National Indoor Championships, since 2008, when Michael Venus reached the singles round of 16 in the tournament.
The event will run from Wednesday, November 6 to Sunday, November 10. The men’s kick off at the Newport Beach Country Club with singles starting at 8:00 a.m., with doubles following.
