Seven Tigers Head to Auburn for the ITA Southern Regional

Baton Rouge— Seven of LSU’s men’s tennis team return to the courts this Thursday for the ITA Southern Regionals taking place at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Alabama (Oct. 17-22).

Senior Ruy Teixeira, juniors Malik Bhatnagar and Joey Thomas, sophomores Boris Kozlov, Daniel Moreno and Nick Watson, and freshman Tomas Descarrega will look to continue the success they’ve had during the fall season.

The select seven will be facing a few familiar faces from Auburn, Alabama, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, New Orleans, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane, and UAB. The six-day-tournament starts off with a 64-man qualifying round. The final eight move onto the main draw, which starts on Saturday.

There are significant implications for this tournament, as the singles finalists and doubles champion of will automatically advance to the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships that take place in Newport Beach, California, this November.

For singles, Watson, Teixeira, and Descarrega will compete in the qualifying draw starting Thursday. Bhatnagar, Moreno, and Kozlov will be in the main draw starting Saturday.

For doubles, duos Thomas/Moreno and Kozlov/Watson have a first-round bye. Descarrega/Teixeira will face Auburn Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Play beings Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 9 a.m.; Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday start times are TBD.
