ATLANTA – The LSU women’s team of Danielle Stirrat, Colleen O’Neil, Kara Kopcso and Leah Troskot set the school record in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:33.49 on the second day of NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.
The Lady Tigers broke the school record in the relay event originally set last season. The swimmers finished 18th overall and just missed the opportunity of moving on to the consolation final by .05 seconds.
“We have started with two really solid relay performances here,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “While there is something to say about setting a school record, there was obviously some natural disappointment of being so close to getting a second swim tonight. There are still some opportunities ahead of us, and if we can be in the moment of this meet those swims in finals will happen.”
Prior to the relay, Troskot competed in the 50 free prelims and finished 34th with a time of 22.51. Troskot made a jump of 22 spots after finishing 56th at NCAA’s last season.
On the one-meter springboard, freshman Lizzie Cui finished 45th with a score of 235.45 in her first NCAA championship appearance.
Last night, the NCAA participants opened the event with an 18th-place finish in the 800-free relay. Stirrat, Megan Cox, Kopcso and Troskot finished the event in 7:05.33.
The Lady Tigers return to action for swimming prelims at 9 a.m. Both O’Neil and Kopcso own top-20 seeds in their respective individual events. Cassie Weil and Cui will also compete on three-meter. Last season, Weil earned NCAA honorable mention All-American honors on the event.
