Former Tiger Venus Wins ATP Title

BATON ROUGE, La. — In his second ATP doubles victory of the year, LSU alumnus Michael Venus and partner Make Pavic, seeded No. 2, defeated Alex and Mischa Zverev 7-5, 7-6(4), in Montpellier, France, Feb. 8.

This was the second time the Zverev brothers faced former Tigers in the tournament, after taking down another brother duo in Ken and Neal Skupski.

After securing this win, Venus advanced three spots in the world rankings and now sits at No. 40. Venus is tied with Ken Skupski for the most ATP Titles from a Tiger with three. Venus also earned 12,535 euros as well as 250 ATP points. He will also be competing in the ATP 250 in Marseille, France Feb. 15-21. 

The Skupski brothers are competing again this week at the challenger event in Bergamo, Italy, seeded at No. 3. The duo is facing Frantisek Cermas and Konstantin Kravchuk in the first round. Ken Skupski, who is currently ranked No. 97, has had great success in Bergamo with a 2011 and a 2012 title with partners Frederik Nielsen and Jamie Delgado respectively.
